Splendid summer sponge recipe

Ingredients:

FOR THE CAKE

  • 225 grams of soft unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing tins)

  • 225 grams of caster sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 200 grams of plain flour

  • 25 grams of cornflour

  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder

  • A small pinch of salt

  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature

  • 2 - 3 tablespoons of milk, at room temperature

FOR THE FILLING

  • 75 grams of seedless raspberry or strawberry jam

  • 150 millilitres double cream

PS You could add some raspberries or strawberries in the middle if you wanted to be posh!!

Maddy’s method

NOTE: You will need x2 20cm / 8-inch sandwich tins

Heat the oven to 180°C/160°C Fan/350°F. Grease the sides of the tins with a small amount of butter and line the bases with baking parchment.

Either use an electric mixer or by hand to cream the butter and sugar together, until very light and fluffy then add the vanilla extract and beat.

In another bowl mix together the flour, cornflour, baking powder and salt.

Beat one egg into the creamed butter and sugar, followed by one tablespoon of the flour mixture and, once both are absorbed, continue in this manner until all 4 eggs are used up.

Once everything’s smoothly combined, start beating in the milk, one tablespoon at a time until your batter mixture drops easily off the beaters, paddle or wooden spoon when lifted up out of the bowl.

Divide the cake batter evenly between the two prepared tins and smooth the tops a little. Place side by side in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the deep-burnished gold tops of the cakes are delicately springy to the touch.

Take them out of the oven and leave them on a cooling rack for 10 minutes before turning them out and removing the parchment and allowing the cakes to cool completely.

When you are ready to serve the cake, put the bottom layer on a serving plate, beat the jam in a cup or small bowl and then spread it over the sponge.

Whip the cream until it’s thick but still with a little softness and spread it gently over the jammed sponge. Place your second cake on top, and then sprinkle over the 2 teaspoons of sugar to give the cake a light, sparkly dusting and voilaaaaa!!!......

Lucious lemon & lime drizzle

Ingredients:

FOR THE CAKE

  • 175 Grams of soft unsalted butter

  • 175 Grams of caster sugar

  • 3x Large eggs

  • 2x Tablespoons of milk

  • 225 Grams of self-rising flour

  • Grated zest of one lemon and one lime (grated outside)

FOR THE ZESTY FLAVOURING

  • 4x Tablespoons of lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 3x Tablespoons of lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 50 Grams of caster sugar

  • 50 Grames of granulated sugar

Maddy’s method

NOTE: You will need a standard loaf baking tin (9inch x6inch)

Heat the oven to 180°C/160°C Fan/350°F. Grease the sides of the tin with a small amount of butter and line with baking parchment.

Grate the zest from the lemon and lime and place to one side.

Either use an electric mixer or by hand to cream the butter and sugar together, until very light and fluffy then add one egg at a time and beat well (add one tablespoon of flour with the last egg).

Next, fold in the remaining milk, the lemon and lime zest and the remaining flour. Continue to mix well until everything is combined and forms a nice sticky batter mixture.

Place cake batter into the prepared tins and smooth the tops a little. Place in the oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the cake is cooked.

Whilst the cake is cooking mix together the freshly squeezed lemon and lime juices with the sugars and set to one side.

Once the cake is cooked remove it from the oven and use a skewer to poke several holes in the top of the cake and immediately pour the sugary mixture all over the cake – leave the cake in the tin to cool and serve once cooled to room temperature.

Bob’s your Uncle, Fanny’s your Aunt – job done!

EVENT POSTPONED

Many of us purchase a special outfit, wear it once, possibly twice, never for it to be worn again, so why not bring new life to your wardrobe for a fraction of the price of buying pre-loved items instead?

Do you have a passion for fashion but not their price tags? Do you want to try a new style and pay a price to make you smile then why not come along for an afternoon of celebrating fashion and purchase some pre-loved items to.

Five great reasons to buy pre-loved.

  • Saves you money.

  • Reduces waste and helps to tackle landfill.

  • Helps our environment & fair trade.

  • Lengthens the life span of each garment.

  • Supports good causes like us.

Should you require any more information about this event please contact us at info@primrosefoundation.org

The Primrose Foundation is not responsible for items purchased that are faulty or damaged in any way. All responsibility of any purchases made will be that of the consumer, not the charity.

The Primrose Foundation is looking for the support of a group or possibly groups of experienced sailors to take part in the wonderful Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit which is both rewarding and beneficial to the participants as well as our wonderful charity too.

This epic event is designed to raise money for charities like The Primrose Foundation. The event is sponsored entirely by a private charitable trust and is the third largest fundraising event in the Southwest, having to date raised over £1 million for many local charities.

The Pursuit has support from several local business heroes such as Allspars Ltd, Mayflower Marina and Plymouth Yacht Haven. It is also supported by Dartington Crystal Ltd in Torrington Ltd who donate the event Trophies.

If you are part of a sizable organisation that enjoys sailing, why not take part in this well-known and hugely popular event and help to raise essential funds for your local breast care charity.

There are many reasons to take part in this event whether it’s for a personal achievement, Business promotion, or giving something back to your local community- the list of possibilities and opportunities is endless. However, whatever your reason for participation we simply appreciate your support.

Sponsorship is raised by the yachts, and it is for them to see that their sponsorship reaches their chosen charity.   The organisers reserve the right on a random basis to seek proof of authenticity and source of sponsorship.   Alternatively, the JustGiving website or similar equivalents can be used.

All Prize Money won by the yachts is sent directly to the nominated charities by the Eddystone Pursuit’s Treasurer after the event.

If this sounds like an event you wish to get involved in, please visit the Eddystone Sailing Pursuit website here https://www.eddystonepursuit.com

Thank you for choosing to support The Primrose Foundation.

The Primrose Foundation has teamed up with A Different Travel Company to offer our supporters an amazing opportunity to explore the stunning landscapes of The Jurassic Coast whilst fundraising for The Primrose Foundation on a 3-day adventure.

The Jurassic Coast is in the south of England and was England’s first natural World Heritage Site. It is part of the much longer South West Coast Path trail, which covers a 630-mile route around the coastline of the South West peninsula.

The Jurassic Coast area is a fossil hunter’s dream with dinosaur remains having been found here. You will walk approximately 26.2 miles along the beautiful coastal path from Lulworth to Studland. The undulating cliffs provide stunning views over the sea and surrounding landscape and offer a very worthy challenge!

Plymouth 5K 2024

  • Plymouth Hoe Plymouth, England, PL1 2PJ United Kingdom (map)

The countdown has begun to one of our favourite local annual events, the Plymouth 5k. We love this event for many reasons but ultimately because it’s centred around bringing our community together and encouraging everyone to get involved.

What’s also great about this event is that the hard-working behind-the-scenes event crew at Redrok Events work incredibly hard at making this event an opportunity for local charities like The Primrose Foundation to benefit by offering all runners the opportunity to support their chosen charity.

You can enter as a solo participant or like many of our fantastic fundraisers have done so in the past, as a group of family, friends, or work colleagues, it’s all about getting involved and potentially making a difference.

Everyone enters with their own story, whether that’s to achieve a personal best or to make a difference to a charity close to their hearts, it’s an event that has no doubt touched most of us in some way, whether you have got involved yourself or sponsored someone that has. It’s an event that makes us proud to live in the Southwest.

If you would like to enter this year for your first time or for the thirty-third time we would love for you to consider supporting us and perhaps that support could help give you some extra motivation. To sign up please click here https://runplymouth.co.uk/plymouth-5k/

Primrose Day

Primrose Day Poster

The Primrose Foundation would like everyone to get involved in our annual Primrose Day by wearing something pink, yellow, or grey for the day.

Either dress from top to toe in one or all our branded colours and show your support for breast cancer awareness.

Our mixture of colours reminds us of our British summers. They are delightful and fun and can be worn by everyone.

We wear these colours one day of the year, to mark our respect for the ones we hold so dear. Those who must fight breast cancer away, then pray it is kept at bay.

Breast cancer is a horrible disease and one we should not dismiss with ease. So, let’s all bring some sunshine into our day and get involved in some way.

Wear a bright yellow top or a fancy pink bow tie, anything goes so don’t be shy. To get involved please donate via the link below, which will help our charity flourish and grow.

https://www.justgiving.com/primrosefoundation

To get involved, we’re asking for a small donation of just £2.50 from each person who wishes to participate – we hope that’s ok.
